The sale, which includes contemporary art from young artists based in Scotland, will have paintings, prints and sculptures available for purchase. Amongst the artists contributing to the event are: Calum McClure – Adam Kennedy – Charlie Anderson – Matt McCann – Chris Peat – Jeff Edwards – Sarah Muirhead – Simon Ray- Alasdair Thomson – Matt Sinclair Sloe – Svetlana Kondakova – Ian Reddie – Paul Kennedy – Darrel Perkins – Liam Allan – Eleanor Symms – Celyn Bricker – Chelley Campbell.
The sale was put together by Nick Burns Cumming, owner of 2020A:rt of Edinburgh, who hopes to raise funds and awareness for the Maggie’s centre, where his friend Lynn Algar has found help and support in the wake of her cancer diagnosis.
Nick said:
‘In 2011 my close friend Lynn Algar was diagnosed with cancer. It came as a huge shock for her and her many friends tried to help in any way possible. I sat with Lynn through many of her chemo sessions, and admired her utter determination to deal with cancer and keep her life as normal as possible. The Maggie’s Centre became our ‘recovery place’ where we could relax after her chemo.A calm place where the staff offer support when required or simply a place to sit and breathe. We decided early on to hold a party for Lynn when the cancer was behind her, but quickly realised that we ought to do something to help repay the Maggie’s. As my background is the art business, ‘The Art of Giving’ was born.’
A private viewing of ‘The Art of Giving’ sale will be held at The Royal College of Physicians Hall, 9 Queen Street, Edinburgh, on Friday 17th August from 6pm while a public viewing will start at 10am on Saturday 18th August 2012.
