Glasgow School of Art 2012 Graduate Showcase @ A.Gallery

A.Gallery, a new independent art gallery within the heart of the Merchant City area of Glasgow, shall be presenting an exhibition featuring the work of selected graduates from this year’s GSA degree show. This showcase includes a variety of work from Rebecca Bracey, Sam De Santis, Hannah Nixon, Jennifer Kirkim and Karen Grant.

De Santis, who returns to the school this academic year as president of the students’ association, provided the primary marketing image for the degree show earlier this summer. His deep black Hand Compacted Sphere, made from soil collected from Glasgow University’s physics department, challenges regular perceptions of what photography should be through concentrating on the chemical processes involved within the practice. On the cover of the degree show catalogue, however, the piece appeared to have an entirely different purpose. It was more like a bizarre egg-like object hatching something fantastically unknown.

The A.Gallery is a little like this sphere. The thought and presentation thus far is magnificent, but now it is up to Jennifer Fergie to nurture her creation and rear it into something special. With the line-up for this forthcoming show, A.Gallery is already on its way to becoming a welcome introduction to the city’s creative district.

Glasgow School of Art 2012 Graduate Showcase runs from the 24th of August until the 26th of September. For more information on the event please see: http://www.adotgallery.com/#!events
